Static Antenna Stabilization
When it comes to maritime communication or train communication, stabilized antennas are key – they have to remain pointed at the satellite in order to ensure a constant flow of data, with regulations stating that an accuracy better than 0.5 is essential to maintain an active transmission.
These demands highlight the need for precise, highly accurate measurements for altitude and angular rate. This means that the antenna has to receive input from at least one orientation sensor in order to respond to changes in vehicle orientation.
As a low cost yet highly accurate gyro technology, vibrating gyros for measurement of Coriolis force are ideal solutions for platform stabilization applications. Micro-machined devices based on silicon or as they are known as MEMS are becoming less costly and increasingly capable. The Colibrys solution
Our recommended sensor for this application is the GM1000 Gyro Module, a packaged version of the GS1000 housed in a miniature container with all its electronic components. Each GM1000 gyro is factory-calibrated and compensated for temperature effects in order to provide high-accuracy differential analogue output voltage or a 24-bit digital output through RS422 interface. Powered by a single 5 to 18Vdc supply for seamless integration, this unit has already proven operational in such demanding applications as remotely controlled weapon stations, camera platform stabilization, electro-optical platform stabilization with MTBF of 1.000.000 hours.
