MEMS and the energy market
The energy and the oil and gas markets use sensors for a wide range of functions and applications. Among these, the accelerometer is one of the most widely used, operating in a variety of configurations to measure pure acceleration (Inertia), vibration, low-frequency seismic signals, angular tilt and shock. This article considers the capabilities of silicon micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) accelerometers in the typically aggressive environmental conditions of the oil and gas industry.
